Clinical Practicum

ATOM’s Intern and affiliated clinics provide care to thousands of patients each year. We offer personalized therapies that address a wide range of common health needs, including routine care, long-term management of chronic conditions and preventive medicine.  ATOM’s clinics provide comprehensive acupuncture and Oriental medicine care for a wide range of medical conditions, including, but not limited to, disorders of the neurological, musculoskeletal, respiratory, gastroenterological, endocrine, circulatory, gynecological and dermatological systems, among many others. The Clinic also provides treatment for addictions and smoking cessation, depression, anxiety, PTSD and chronic fatigue syndrome.

ATOM’s clinical education offers its students hands on clinical experience while providing acupuncture and Oriental Medicine services to patients in the Fort Lauderdale community.  All treatments administered at ATOM’s clinics are supervised by highly experienced members ATOM’s licensed clinical faculty.  Both Medical Doctors and Acupuncture Physicians who serve as ATOM faculty oversee student clinical training and the delivery of patient care.

ATOM students learn to integrate Traditional Chinese Medicine theory with the practice of healing in appropriate clinic settings. Clinical observation is an important part of the initial clinical training experience.  Student observers are exposed to all aspects of the practice of Oriental medicine, from pulse and tongue diagnosis to acupuncture treatment and writing herbal formulas. Following the clinical observation experience, core classes and a clinic exam, students become Clinic Interns and provide supervised treatments to patients.  Clinical competencies on the part of Interns are evaluated each term and exams as well as clinical evaluations are conducted to confirm the students’ mastery of clinical skills.

The ATOM Intern Clinic, located on campus, is ATOM’s primary clinic for acupuncture and Oriental medicine students completing their internship as a requirement for graduation from ATOM’s professional training programs.

ATOM is one of the few accredited acupuncture schools that offer training in the NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) auricular acupuncture treatment protocols for the treatment of PTSD, stress and addictions through its specialty clinic (ATOM Clinic II).   ATOM Clinic II provides free or low cost acupuncture and Oriental medicine services to veterans and the active military and is also open to members of the general public.
