Dr. Harry Hong was trained in China as a medical doctor specializing in traditional Chinese medicine. He practiced Chinese medicine in Peking Union Hospital in Beijing, China, before coming to the States in 1989. He received his MS in molecular biology from the University of Idaho and his PhD in biochemistry from the Medical College of Ohio. He also did postdoctoral research at the National Institute of Health and at the Medical Center of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Hong has been practicing holistic medicine for more than 20 years in Chicago and south Florida. He also teaches doctoral level courses at the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Functional medicine focuses on the optimal functioning of the body and the root cause of the disease with biomedical research and holistic believes. It shares holistic philosophy with Chinese medicine yet with a different approach to modern diseases. This lecture teaches Chinese medicine practitioners basics of functional medicine and nutrition.
