TCM Hepatology June 23-26, 2017 Mingyu Sun MD (China), Ph.D. MS

Dr. Mingyu Sun received her medical training from Liaoning College of Chinese Medicine and obtained a master degree in Chinese medicine from the same school. During 2000 and 2003 she studied in Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and received her Ph.D. in Chinese medicine. She also did post doctorial research training from Fudan University and the University of California at Los Angles. Dr. Sun is currently a professor and chief physician in Zhuguang Hospital, Shanghai University of Chinese Medicine.

Dr. Sun has practiced and taught Chinese medicine for 16 years. She also led or participated in more than 20 research projects, set and implemented research goals or applied for funds, timely reviewed of projects and portfolio, identified new research targets; composed the key subject document and established the items; instructed undergraduate and graduate student’ study and research. Her main research interest is Chinese medicine for liver disease.

Hepatology is one of the major clinical specialties in the traditional Chinese medicine. It is unique in theory, rich in the therapeutic methods and significant in the clinical curative effects. Dr. Sun’s course is composed of two major parts : 1) a general introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the unique organs related to hepatology; 2) the diagnosis and treatment of some of the major diseases based on certain symptoms in the department of hepatology, including NAFLD and liver cirrhosis. A comparative study of the differences between western medicine and TCM will also be included in the course.

The course objectives include

  • To introduce the basic anatomy and physiology of hepatology
  • To familiarize students with the diagnostic methods and differentiation of the related symptoms
  • To teach the common terminology used in Western Medicine as well as in TCM
  • To teach the students how to do diagnosis and treat the common diseases in the department of hepatology
  • To teach the students how to use herbs for the related liver diseases
