The Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine is pleased to announce its success in receiving re-accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental
Medicine (ACAOM) for a six year period from
August 19, 2010 until the summer of 2016. This is another great achievement
for this institution.
The professional Master of Science in Oriental
Medicine Program of the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine is
accredited by ACAOM, which is the
recognized accrediting agency for the approval of programs preparing
acupuncture and Oriental Medicine practitioners. ACAOM is located at:

According
to 6.4B1-4.001 of Florida State Acupuncture Rules, applicants who apply
for licensure on or after October 1, 2003 must have graduated from an
ACAOM candidate or accredited 4-year master's level program or foreign
equivalent in oriental medicine education. Accreditation assures our
students that we have met the highest national standards for education
and training.
ATOM is a Florida licensed college with the Commission for
Independent Education
(CIE) to confer the Bachelor's
Degree in Health Sciences and the Master's Degree in Oriental Medicine.

National Certification
ATOM also prepares its students for national certification by the National Certification
Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). ATOM's accreditation with ACAOM simplifies the application process for our students.
Florida Licensure Examination
The Florida Board of Acupuncture is located at the
Agency for Health Care Administration, Division of Health Quality
Assurance, Board of Acupuncture, 4052 Bald Cypress Way, Bin #C06,
Tallahassee, FL 32399-3256, Telephone (850) 245-4161. In order to
qualify for Florida's acupuncture license examination, this Board
requires that applicants must have completed the core curriculum of the
Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) master's level program in oriental medicine with a minimum of 2700 hours of supervised instruction and:
- 15 hours of supervised instruction in Universal Precautions and 3 hours of HIV/AIDS.
- 20 hours of supervised instruction in Florida statutes and rules.
And applicants who apply for licensure on or after October 1, 2003 must have graduated from an ACAOM
candidate or accredited 4-year master's level program or foreign
equivalent in oriental medicine with a minimum of 2700 hours of
supervised instruction and:
- 15 hours of supervised instruction in Universal Precautions and 3 hours of HIV/AIDS.
- 20 hours of supervised instruction in Florida statutes and rules.
All of the requirements are satisfied by ATOM's
course of study. Florida's licensure examinations are usually given
twice a year. Students obtaining their Florida acupuncture license are
called "Acupuncturists" or "Acupuncture Physician"; they are permitted
to place after their names the initials, "A.P." (Acupuncture Physician)
or "L.A.P." (Licensed Acupuncture Physician).
