Accreditation
The Atlantic Institue of Oriental Medicine is pleased to announce its success in receiving reaccreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) for a four year period from September 6th, 2006 until summer of 2010. This is another great achievement for this institution, which is college licensed by the Florida State Commission for Independent Education.
ATOM is
a licensed college with the State Commission for Independent Education
to confer the Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences and the Master's

The
professional Master of Science in Oriental Medicine Program of the
Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine is accredited by the
Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM),
which is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of
programs preparing acupuncture and Oriental medicine practitioners.

National Certification
(NCCAOM)
ATOM
also prepares its students for national certification by the National
Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
(NCCAOM). ATOM's accreditation with ACAOM simplifies the application
process for our students.
The Florida Board of
Acupuncture is located at the Agency for Health Care Administration,
Division of Health Quality Assurance, Board of Acupuncture, 4052 Bald
Cypress Way, Bin #C06, Tallahassee, FL 32399-3256, Telephone
850-245-4161. In order to qualify for Florida's acupuncture license
examination, this Board requires that applicants must have completed
the core curriculum of the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture
and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM)
master's level program in oriental medicine with a minimum of 2700
hours of supervised instruction; and
- 15 hours of
supervised instruction in Universal Precautions and 3 hours of
HIV/AIDS.
- 20 hours of
supervised instruction in Florida statutes and rules.
And applicants who
apply for licensure on or after October 1, 2003 must have graduated
from an ACAOM candidate or
accredited 4-year master's level program or foreign equivalent in
oriental medicine with a minimum of 2700 hours of supervised
instruction, and:
- 15 hours of
supervised instruction in Universal Precautions and 3 hours of
HIV/AIDS.
- 20 hours of
supervised instruction in Florida statutes and rules.
All of the
requirements are satisfied by ATOM's course of study. Florida's
licensure examinations are usually given twice a year. Students
obtaining their Florida acupuncture license are called
"Acupuncturists" or "Acupuncture Physician"; they are permitted to
place after their names the initials, "A.P." (Acupuncture Physician),
or "L.A.P." (Licensed Acupuncture Physician).
